Ireland, the Emerald Isle- A great combination of beauty and hospitality!

Ireland, the Emerald Isle, by Chrissy Cannon, Travel Consultant at Alamo World Travel & Tours www.alamoworld.com - 30 years in Alamo (925) 837-8742   Ask us, we’ve been there!

Top of the Morning to you! I just got back from a wonderful 7-day educational and sightseeing trip to the Northern Region of Ireland.  It was fantastic!  I visited Belfast, Donegal, Kildare and Dublin, Ireland, I learned a lot and saw a lot of beautiful places a long the way as I journeyed through Northern Ireland!

The Emerald Isle is known for its Warm Irish Hospitality, Beautiful Green Landscapes filled with lots of Sheep and Cows but no Leprechauns (although I was looking for them).  I saw Rainbows & Rain (That is why Ireland is known to have 40 Shades of Green) and saw that Ireland is a magical place from their cities to their country villages and is filled with thousand of years worth of culture and history.

Some of my favorite places visited were the Awesome Giants Causeway, Northern Ireland’s most famous landmark. The Giants Causeway gets its name from the Legends of Finn MacCool, Ireland’s version of King Arthur.   In  2012 the Olympic Torch will be making a stop at the Giant’s Causeway.  Another magical and unforgettable place I visited was Amazing Slieve League (“Mountains of Limestone.”)in Donegal, Ireland.  Slieve League will take your breath away.  They are the highest Sea Cliffs in Europe, 2.5 times higher than the Cliffs of Moher in Southern Ireland and far higher than the White Cliffs of Dover! If  you are adventuresome you can hike these extraordinary cliffs from end to end in about 5 hours.   Have fun, wear comfortable shoes and don’t forget your camera!

I journeyed to Dublin (with a population just over 1 million people) and visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Guinness Brewery (Ireland’s #1 tourist attraction- the Irish love their Guinness!) Dublin, Ireland is also full of life and education with Trinity College (which holds the Book of Kells- a beautiful illustrated manuscript containing the Four Gospels, dating to the 8th century).  Dublin has many wonderful restaurants and lots of shopping to be done on Grafton Street!   Ireland has some of the world’s most beautiful scenery and friendliest people.   Ireland is a great place to visit, explore and stay a while and get immersed in the Irish Culture, too!
